About Debra May Himes

Debra May Himes' inspiration comes from her grandmother and the famous architect Frank Lloyd Wright. Her moxie and motivation come from watching her grandmother own three successful businesses including two truck-driving schools and a restaurant.

Following the steps of Frank Lloyd Wright helped her to build solid, client-focused business procedures.

Debra is an Arizona native who studied in Flagstaff at Northern Arizona University where she was recently honored with the university's "Distinguished Citizen Award".

She opened her design studio in 1982 and intentionally maintains a small company with an executive assistant and an interior design assistant; "That just means my clients have access to me," she says, "and I supervise all of the work."

Her interior design style is elegant but livable and emotionally compelling. She works with elements such as hand-hewn beams, textured fabrics and Venetian plaster. She particularly enjoys creating architectural details such as niches and specialized application of stone. Debra's dramatic entrances make a statement and set the tone for a design that interweaves materials and furnishings in a fashion that is contrasting yet complimentary.
